Why Attend?
Collaboration with Renowned European Musicians
We are thrilled to welcome internationally respected recorder experts Sigrun Lefringhausen and Heiko ter Schegget from the Netherlands, who will join us as guest instructors this year. Since 2007 we have always had great instructors: Markus Zahnhausen (DE), Conrad Steinmann (SUI) and Helma Franssen (SUI), Claire Michon (FRA), Lobke Sprenkeling (ESP) and many others. See our photo and movie Gallery for more.
Exceptional Estonian Faculty
The teaching team includes:
-
Reet Sukk - renaissance and baroque recorders, traverso
-
Taavi-Mats Utt – renaissance and baroque recorders
-
Peeter Klaas – viola da gamba and early strings
-

Musical Structure
A rich blend of small ensembles, large orchestras, and integrated dance sessions define the school.
Each participant will be part of at least:
-
Two ensembles (one including a dance component)
-
One orchestra
Classes are open to observers. Ensemble placements are finalized in June based on registrations.
Partnership with Cantores Vagantes Studio
In collaboration with Cantores Vagantes, students are placed in ensembles and provided with a broad selection of Renaissance instruments—an inspiring experience that enhances historical performance learning.
Concerts
-
Opening Concert: Held in Lüdig Hall, featuring instructors and setting the tone for the week.
-
Final Concert: A vibrant, 90-minute program where all participants perform music and dances learned during the summer school—an inspiring event for both performers and audience.
Unmatched Ensemble Experience
Vändra Summer School is the only event in Estonia that brings together recorder players from across the country. It offers a unique opportunity for skilled young musicians to perform challenging repertoire in ensembles and orchestras.
